A moon themed, free street party bringing together music, art, science, food and good vibes all about loving and celebrating the moon. The event starts at 6pm with a soulful vibe and increases in intensity as the evening progresses culminating in a Carnival performance including drumming, dancing and high vibes. This event is collectively curated by producers from the Night School, Emergency Exit Arts, Rasheeda Page Muir, Woolwich Carnival and Moon Festival.

BINA. – South London songstress BINA is making a mark with her unique alternative R&B sound. Drawing inspiration from life, love (and lack thereof) she delivers soulful vocals over mellow beats. Her journey as “BINA.” began only a year ago, when she dropped her catchy summer anthem Summer Breeze and she has released two impressive singles since – Where Do We Go and Prisoner.  Her debut EP entitled “Humble Abode”, is out now on all major platforms, accompanied by visuals.

OURAA AND BAND Ouraa is a Orange unorthodox artist based in South London. Her gospel roots merge with the R&B and Pop sound to create something that’s out of this universe! With her bubbly and charismatic personality, when performing on stage, she’s an absolute force of nature!

DJ Rio D, a self taught multi genre DJ burst onto the underground club scene in 2016. Specialising in R&B, Hip Hop, Soul and Old School tunes – he has made a name for himself all across the UK as an energetic, vibrant, curator of sounds that span across the decades. He is passionate about capturing the experiences of his community as it pertains to sound and is paving the way in terms of creating new ways to document such experiences.

WOOLWICH CARNIVAL – A music and dance led commissioned piece about the moon in Woolwich by Woolwich Carnival.

OTHER PERFORMANCES AND ART

Astronomy tent An astronomy tent run by the Royal Observatory including an interactive moon map, a moon dial activity and moon projections. This activity is designed and led by some of the UK’s leading astronomers from the Royal Observatory.

Food Market Street Food Markets brings you the moon on a plate in our themed food market. Enjoy Italian, Vietnamese, Caribbean, Latin American among other cuisines all of which bring you a unique moon spin. All our traders are local to the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

Moon Garden – A plant installation in one of the flower beds. Plants include birch trees and potted plants that will be given away at the end of the night. As part of the moon garden experience there’s also a ‘have a go activity’ involving lemons and pins and a stall for buying teas inspired by the concept of the moon garden. Love Letters to the Moon – This art installation piece will take the form of an illuminated, full moon lantern. Audiences will be invited to interact with the installation by writing messages to the moon on the lanterns surface, this messages will be prompted by a series of questions to keep the messages on theme. Produced by The Night School and Emergency Exit Arts.

 Footprints on the moon – The moon is always connecting people and so we want to connect as many first footsteps as possible. The audience will take on the role of the first man on the moon experience. One technician will apply the colour. People are invited to choose a colour and step on the moon. Produced by The Night School and Emergency Exit Arts.

Silent stories – A chill out zone dedicated to the sharing and listening of stories our NightSchool Researchers collected from Woolwich folks. Using wireless headphones we invite you to  will create a sense of intimacy for the audience and provide a unique storytelling experience.

Moon Dome – Relax and experience the magical mysteries of the moon in this multi-sensorial 180° video projection by visual artists Wu Chin Tsou (@eugeneisokay) and Tilly Mint (@studiotillymint) and soundscape by up and coming music producer Sterling Reigns (@sterlingreigns). Produced by Cally Lam, Koko Achiaa-Owusu & Yu-zhen Cai.

Meet Many Moons – Moon related characters will roam around interacting with each other and with you. Produced by Lottie Eustace and Emergency Exit Arts.

Moon Stone Dance – Ever wondered what the powers of the moonstone are? Ffion Campbell – Davies will perform a short dance on the powers of the Moonstone and its relationship with the Moon. Using a stunning crescent moon as a backdrop and silk for a dance material this piece will be powerful and mesmerising. Produced by Alanna Wells and Emergency Exit Arts.

Animal astronauts – a monkey and a dog, both heroes. Both astronauts. Meet them and learn about their story in General between 6pm – 8pm. The puppets aim to celebrate animal space flight’s achievements and to acknowledge their contribution in facilitating human success in space. Produced by Urban Outdoors London.
